Initiated two years ago in order to support a more competitive European Defence Technological and Industrial Base, the Code of Conduct on Defence Procurement introduced EU-wide competition in the Article 296 area. It has achieved promising results so far but more transparency and mutual accountability between Member States in other areas of the European Defence Equipment Market (EDEM) are still needed.
